Pre-pasted Vs Non-pasted Wallpaper
If planning for a new interior make-over and thinking about adding some pop of color on the walls, you might find yourself doing some research on the wallpaper options, materials and installation process and what might be the best option for you. If you have decided to go with the traditional wallpaper, then choosing between pre-pasted or non-pasted material can be the next question. To help you save some time and decide on which wallpaper material would be the best option for your wallpapering project, in this blog post we will be going through the pros and cons of pre-pasted and non-pasted wallpaper. Livette's Wallpaper has chosen not to offer pre-pasted wallpaper. See below why that is.

Pre-Pasted Wallpaper

Pre-pasted wallpaper has its benefits on the fact that the glue has already been applied to the back of the wallpaper, meaning that there can be less work needed to be done during the installation. Furthermore you would not need to buy glue or paste to apply the wallpaper as well and if the installation process is done with precision, then the result can be as beautiful as in the photo above, where Lindsey has given her mudroom walls a fresh pop of color and made it more welcoming.
Pre-pasted wallpaper pros and cons
If we look at pros and cons of pre-pasted wallpaper, then the pros as previously mentioned definitely are the less work that has to be done, meaning no need of pasting the wall or back of wallpaper to apply it, and that for installation there will be less tools needed. To install pre-pasted wallpaper, the wallpaper only needs to be wetted before application, which can seem as an easy job to do. However, when wetting the wallpaper, there is a risk of soaking it too much, resulting in wallpaper not sticking to the wall properly. Furthermore, the wallpaper usually needs to be booked before application, making the process slightly longer and again having the risk of soaking the wallpaper too much, resulting in wallpaper hanging loosely to the wall. Another con of pre-pasted wallpaper is that because of these risks the wallpaper can last for a shorter amount of time and the majority of these types of wallpaper are quite thin, allowing any irregularities, defects and texture to be visible through the wallpaper.

Pros And Cons Of Pre-Pasted Wallpaper

Pros:
  • Less tools needed - no glue or paste;
  • Wallpaper only needs to be wetted for application.
Cons:
  • Risk to wet the wallpaper too much and wallpaper not sticking to the wall properly;
  • Can last for a shorter amount of time;
  • Majority of these types of wallpaper are quite thin, allowing any irregularities, defects and texture to be visible through the wallpaper.

Non-Pasted Wallpaper

Non-pasted wallpaper on the other hand requires glue or paste for non-woven wallpaper. Our traditional wallpaper requires you to apply the glue or paste directly to the wall instead of the wallpaper, which does make the application process easier, as it allows you to slide the wallpaper in the right position for a perfect wallpaper pattern repeat. In the photo above we can see a beautiful, chic powder room design done by Jacy Painter Kelly Interiors with our traditional wallpaper - London Metro Lines Removable Wallpaper In Black And Off White from our Black And White Wallpaper collection.
Non-pasted wallpaper pros and cons
Non-pasted wallpaper is often chosen more by professionals as it gives a beautiful and high-quality look. If we look at the installation process, a con can be the longer wallpaper application process as paste or glue needs to be applied. However, while other non-pasted wallpapers require applying paste or glue on the back of the wallpaper and then booking the wallpaper to soak, that requires more work and time, to install our wallpaper the glue or paste, as previously mentioned, needs to be applied to the walls surface, making the job less messy and easier to slide the wallpaper in the right position. To learn more about installing our traditional wallpaper, visit our How To Install Traditional Non Woven Wallpaper | Wallpaper 101 blog post.
Although installing non-pasted wallpaper does require more tools and work as the paste or glue has to be still added, it can give a longer lasting result. Furthermore, because it is easier to slide the wallpaper panels in the position because of the glue being applied on the wall and not having to book the wallpaper panel, making it less messy as well, it is often chosen more by first time wallpaper installers to get the picture perfect continuous pattern match.

Pros And Cons Of Non-Pasted Wallpaper

Pros:
  • Chosen by professionals;
  • To install our traditional wallpaper, glue or paste needs to be added on the wall, making the process less messy;
  • Can last longer.
Cons:
  • Longer process as glue or paste needs to be added.

 We hope these pros and cons of pre-pasted and non-pasted wallpapers will help you decide on the perfect material for your next wallpapering project. If you are looking to learn more about our traditional non-pasted wallpaper, please visit our Learn & How To page about the Traditional Wallpaper.
