Welcome back to Week 2 of the One Room Challenge! This week is all about the hunt - shopping and sourcing for design pieces that will bring my kitchen space to life. I have been searching for stylish yet affordable pieces and I am excited to share some amazing finds, plus where you can score them for less. From backsplash samples to statement accessories, and the vision is starting to take shape!
When it comes to styling a kitchen nook, every detail matters. The first piece I was on the hunt for was a cutting board that would blend seamlessly with the Mediterranean aesthetic and match the countertop perfectly. I originally picked out an option from Zara Home but after seeing it in person, the color of the wood did not exactly meet my expectations and I went for this beautiful oak piece from Casa Stockmann. It adds a touch of warmth and texture to the nook.
The second piece I am styling the kitchen with is a white ceramic vase. I fell in love with this one from Ferm Living. It had the perfect minimalist design I was envisioning for the space. However, after a bit of searching, I found an almost identical version from Reserved store home section - not to mention it was a fraction of the price. I am planning to fill the vase with eucalyptus to really bring out that fresh, Mediterranean vibe.
This design element is not only stunning but practical, as well. And that to me is a win-win situation! The olive oil bottle that also ties in with the Mediterranean-inspired theme, I originally had my eye on a beautiful handmade version by Gharyan Stoneware from Nordstrom, but after diving deep into my search, I found a nearly identical one from H&M Home - and I actually ended up loving it even more! Not only is it stylish, but it was also much more affordable, which made it an even sweeter find.
The fourth addition to the kitchen makeover are these adorable tea towels - but with a personal twist. Initially I found this set of kitchen towels from Zara Home, but decided to take a more creative route and DIY them myself. While ordering the backsplash samples from Livette's Wallpaper, I added a few printed fabric samples to the mix and they ended up being the perfect addition to the styling. The designs I went for were Minimal Olive Lines Design Printed Fabric; Green Floral Design Printed Fabric and Latte Stripes Printed Fabric. With just a few folds and quick hem stitches, I transformed them into custom kitchen towels. Such a unique, personal touch that I am happy with!
The final and most definitely most impactful styling additional is the peel and stick backsplash. This element will completely transform the kitchen nook and bring the whole vision together. I ordered a few extra samples to take advantage of the "Buy 2 samples & get 2 free" deal, which made the testing process more budget friendly. In the end, I will most definitely stick with my original choice - Geometric Wooden Tile Design Backsplash in custom colors: Olive & Off White, which felt just right from the start.
With the main styling elements selected, I am sure I'll be adding a few more styling touches once the backsplash is installed and everything starts coming together. I am so excited to see how all these design pieces will work together to transform the kitchen nook into something really special. Stay tuned for the next update as the One Room Challenge continues and the transformation unfolds!
